7th September 2011
Children and staff of Daisy Chain Childcare nursery based at Lofthouse Children’s Centre have been training hard for a British Heart Foundation (BHF) Artie’s Olympic’s Day.
Children aged between six months and five years old put on their trainers and took part in many sponsored challenges, allowing them to showcase the skills they have been developing over the past few weeks. Activities included Welly wanging, hurdles, egg & spoon and sack races.
Daisy Chain Childcare took part in this activity based challenge as part of the national Artie’s Olympic scheme organised by the BHF, the nation’s heart charity. The scheme promotes the importance of maintaining a healthy heart through regular exercise whilst raising vital funds for pioneering research into the causes and treatment of heart disease in men, women and children.
Julie Spalding, Manager at Daisy Chain Childcare said “Our Artie’s Olympic’s Day has given the children a reason to get moving, not to mention having lots of fun. The scheme helps us encourage healthy habits, whilst creating a more active ethos. It was a fantastic event for a worthy cause which is close to our hearts, having supported a little boy who started nursery in 2010 after undergoing major heart surgery.” We are pleased to announce that our customers and staff have raised a whopping £1,200 for the British Heart Foundation.
Over 400 schools have taken part in the Artie’s Olympics scheme since it was launched in 2008 and have raised almost £40,000.00 for the nation’s heart charity.

Denise said “The money was raised at our Rothwell and Adel nurseries by holding sports days where children took part in lots of fun activities such as egg and spoon, obstacle and sack races and a sponsored toddle. I am so proud of the children for raising money for other children less fortunate than themselves. Every year we hold these events to raise money for our chosen charity and this year we are delighted to be involved in such a deserving cause. Thank you to the parents and staff who got involved, we hope you enjoyed the day as much as the children.”
Rothwell nursery are victorious, bringing home the cup at this year’s teambuilding event held in Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales. Well done everyone.

It was big breakfasts all round for the children and their fathers at Daisy Chain Childcare. A full English breakfast with all the trimmings was served at nursery to celebrate Fathers’ day and further develop parental partnerships. Julie Spalding, Nursery Manager said, “it’s not always possible for dads to join in and be involved in nursery life, we often have mother’s day afternoon teas or picnics but felt that a big breakfast may be more appealing to celebrate Fathers day and it was lovely to see everyone tucking in together and having fun in the nursery setting. The children and their dads agreed it was a great time of day for a get together.”

Dare Devil staff from Daisy Chain Childcare took part in an abseil from the top of Leeds Carnegie building located at the civic quarter on Sunday the 27th September 2009.
The event was organised by Radio Aire to raise money for the charity “cash for kids”. Daisy Chain Childcare had a team taking part in the abseil along with some of the cast from ITV’s Emmerdale.
The 30m abseil was to raise money to offer a helping hand for sick, disabled and underprivileged children in Yorkshire. Julie Anderson, Nursery Manager of Daisy Chain Childcare (Adel) said “as we are children’s day nurseries with 4 sites within Yorkshire, this sort of charity is very close to our hearts and we feel privileged to be able to take part in such an exciting, high profile event. Most of the staff team who took part have never abseiled before and found it very challenging to say the least, but we are proud to say that we all did it and it was for such a worthwhile cause”.

Education watchdogs have sung our praises after a recent Ofsted inspection at our Rotherham nursery. The Ofsted report, published this week gave our nursery top marks for its service to young children.
The nursery was inspected last month for its service to children aged from six months to school age, receiving high praise with an outstanding judgement for the regard given to the welfare of children and safeguarding children.
Quotes from Ofsted include:
“Members of staff are extremely child-centred and they use their time very effectively to provide a welcoming environment which caters for a broad range of individual needs”
“Babies and young children enjoy singing and music as they confidently babble and develop their single word vocabulary. Likewise the older children are encouraged to join in and construct more complex sentences as they rehearse familiar roles during pretend play”
“The leadership and management of the early years provision is very good… recruitment, induction and appraisal systems ensure that children’s welfare is maximised.”
“Mealtimes are very social occasions for the children who enjoy freshly prepared wholesome and nutritious food and drink”
“Children benefit greatly from dance and French lessons which are provided weekly”
The full report can be viewed on the Ofsted website or we will happily post you a copy.
Our staff team are also celebrating further success at recently receiving an award for the Quality in Action accreditation scheme. This is a quality assurance kite mark awarded by Rotherham Borough Council to nurseries offering a service where quality is assured. Every aspect of our service has been scrutinised by childcare experts at Rotherham Council and we are pleased to say that the excellent work of our staff team has been recognised.
We are delighted that our high standards have shone through to both Ofsted and the local council. Our company ethos is that children learn best through play and we aim for each child’s day at nursery to be fun filled and educational.
Our new, more accessible website has been launched. We are very excited!
